First play with Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is really turning out to be an awesome dedicated video camera - especially when coupled with some great lenses.  I use a lot of video, animation and still photogrpahy most days and picking up the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera just seems to comfortably fit in your hands.  It looks slim and light but definitely does not have a cheap and plastic feel to it - in fact it is a little heavier then you would expect from its size.

A few street pics with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Voigtlander 42.5mm lens

A portrait with the Voigtlander 42.5mm lens

Given that the Olympus OM-D E-M1 now has focus peaking it would be safe to assume it would be a great match for the range of high quality manual voigtlander lenses.  Given a hectic workload at present, I haven't had much time to play with either the E-M1 or the Voigtlander 42.5mm lens, so it was time to take an hour out of my day to play a little.  First impressions of the focus peaking are quite good (but not perfect) however, on the street zone focusing still works a treat with these manual lenses.

Hong Kong is always an interesting stop over and a great place to hit the streets with a camera in hand to try and capture some of the essence of every day life.  In Hong Kong it is great to walk many of the smaller side streets and back alleys where you will always find something interesting.  he following photos are from a quick 23hr stop over and are all taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and a combination of lenses Voigtlander 17.5mm, Olympus 17mm and 12mm and the Panasonic Leica 25mm.

Places and faces of Prague

Nov

Pargue

**Please be warned that this post is longer then usual and will take a little time to load up the images** Trying to capture the history and people of an amazing european city like Prague can be a difficult challenge - especially when you have limited time and autumn weather that just wants to ensure cloudy skies and rain are a part of your total experience.  When visiting Prague for the first time, you can read a million reviews online and listen to peoples experiences, but being there and seeing it for yourself is a totally different experience.

Macro at the butterfly garden in Kuala Lumpur

Oct

macro manual focus

On saturday after finishing a morning of street shooting and having delicious lunch of Indian food with Robin Wong we couldn't help ourselves but go for a hot, humid session of macro shooting in the KL Butterfly park.   I shot exclusively with the Olympus OM-D EM5 and 20mm macro lens.  All photos were shot with manual settings, though I did occassionally use the auto focus.  I am always impressed at how accurate and quick the autofocus is with this lens (especially when u select the right distances on the the lens itself).

Pulau Ketam - crab island

A couple of days ago I was out near Port Klang and decided that while I was there I would go for a quick boat ride to Pulau Ketam (crab island).  It is located about 30min by boat from Port Klang and Port Klang is about a 1hr train ride from KL Sentral.

Bukit Bintang

I am back in KL for a short visit again and that means its time to hit the streets and do a little more street shooting (and also update this blog).  This time I was able to catch up with some friends, Robin Wong and Nick Wade, to have a very short night shoot on the streets of Bukit Bintang - an area where there is nearly always something happening.

Diving the Ex-HMAS Brisbane

Inside the Brisbane

The last few weeks has seen me more drawn to being underwater, wet and at times a little cold (time for a wetsuit upgrade).  This most recent trip was to the Ex-HMAS Brisbane which was sunk off the Moolooolaba coast in 2005 mainly as a tourist attraction.  Its exact location is at GPS coordinates S26 36.993 E153 10.187.

A brief morning visit to Pudu Wet Markets

Fish at Pudu Wet Markets

After weeks of adventures, I am still trying to catch up on my blog posts and process the collection of photos that I have.  The photos in this post aim to give you a brief glimpse into the Pudu Wet Markets early one Sunday morning in July.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Pudu wet markets, they are located quite centrally in Kuala Lumpur near Jalan Pudu and are a great little adventure, though do be aware of any pick pockets when visiting this market or any other markets.

Close encounters with grey nurse sharks

Grey Nurse Shark at Stradbroke Island

Recently I have had the need to get out for a freedive or scuba dive.  I have had a few free dives on the sunshine coast over the last week with over 20m visibility, so I was quite excited about getting as much diving in as possible while the visibility was good. Having some free time on Sunday I decided it was time to pay a visit to some friends staying on North Stradbroke Island and head out to Shark Alley to see if we could find the grey nurse sharks.
