Awesome Olympus Service and a faulty OM-D E-M5

This post is a little unusual for my style of writing here, but because it got me thinking about what you buy when you buy a camera, I thought I would share my experiences with you.  Being a person that travels internationally regularly, the two things I do look for in a camera is reliability (or toughness) and great after sales service. You could probably add a lightweight system to this as well, but sometimes my Olympus E3 and E5 really did become heavy).

Orange Hair in Bukit Bintang

About a week ago I had the pleasure of catching up with Robin Wong (see his version of the story at http://robinwong.blogspot.com/2012/06/night-shooting-with-visitor-from.html) another fellow Olympus shooter based in Malaysia.  I originally sent him a message online asking where to get film developed in Malaysia as I knew he was a street photographer based in Kuala Lumpur and I had decided

Chow Kit Markets

Over the years I have had the opportunity of getting to know Malaysia while visiting for both work and a little down time – it has consequently become one of my favourite places to visit.  I am again in Malaysia for a few days and decided that while I have a little down time I should wander the markets and streets with my camera and enjoy a little of the local food on the way.

About a week ago I organised an underwater adventure for scuba diving and of course underwater photography at the North Solitary Island. The North Solitary Island is located about a 4 ½ hr drive south of Brisbane in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is then a 13km boat trip offshore from the small town of Wooli (popular for its Goanna pulling championships – see http://www.goannapulling.com.au). The island forms a part of the Solitary Islands Marine Park and offers some very spectacular diving. There are many awesome diving sites located in the area, though some of them are quite difficult to access due to weather and/or currents.

Transit of Venus

One of the most talked about events for 2012 in terms of astronomy is the transit of Venus across the Sun.  Perhaps one of the most significant reasons for this is that it will be a "once-in-a-life-time" event for many (unless you saw it in 2004 when it last happened).  It is predicted that the next time it will occur is in December 2117.  The transit takes place when Venus passes between the earth and the sun and is seen as a small disk or black dot moving across the face of the sun.
