A brief morning visit to Pudu Wet Markets

Fish at Pudu Wet Markets

After weeks of adventures, I am still trying to catch up on my blog posts and process the collection of photos that I have.  The photos in this post aim to give you a brief glimpse into the Pudu Wet Markets early one Sunday morning in July.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Pudu wet markets, they are located quite centrally in Kuala Lumpur near Jalan Pudu and are a great little adventure, though do be aware of any pick pockets when visiting this market or any other markets.  You can start walking from the following GPS marks and take in the lane ways and streets around the area at N3 08.044 E101 42.897.  I always visit thse markets at least once while I am in Malaysia and always thoroughly enjoy the visit.  There is always something different happening in the area if you look closely.

The outing on this particular day was with the Panasonic GH3 camera and mainly the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens.  I tend to use this camera mainly for video, but never really give it a chance on the street for still photos.  I nearly always carry my Olympus OM-D E-M5 when walking the streets, though I know the Panasonic GH3 should be able to compare quite well (even though it does not have the stabilisation that I love in the Olympus camera).  While I was taking the pics with the Panasonic GH3 I was initialy quite disappointed with my photos while having a little chimp at the pics on the small screen of the GH3. I thought I had nailed the focus using settings that i know work for this type of photography but things just did not seem as sharp as my Olympus camera.  This was a little frustrating, but I continued as I deliberately left my other camera body at the hotel to ensure I did not change from camera to camera.  I remember getting back to the hotel late that day and loading up the images on my laptop as a backup and being pleasantly relieved that it was just the poor quality of the rear screen on the GH3.  The photos were as I had anticipated they should be!  Its a shame it has taken me so long to get around to processing them though.  I am now quite happy with the GH3 for still pictures (though I have scratched the EVF glass which makes it harder for manually focusing - a problem I have never ever had before, but I know travelling is rough on this sort of gear).
